This chemical is typically used throughout the dry cleaning process. Around 2006, the EPA revised emissions standards and deemed perc an hazardous to public and environmental safety.

Typical dry cleaners that advertise “green,” “organic,” or “eco-friendly,” typically use a different solvent called DF2000. Many places use “organic” simply to refer to using a different chemical. While this is less toxic than perc, it is only marginally. DF2000 is actually found in gas for automobiles.
